 TTHE SINGULAR ADVENTURES OF

MR SHERLOCK HOLMES

This well-received book is now in its third edition.  Many eminent Sherlockian connoisseurs have praised the collection for its authentic tone.

Alan Stockwell does full justice to the character of the famous sleuth with his imaginative, ingenious, inventive plots that are completely faithful to the spirit of the original Doyle stories.  A superbly crafted and grippingly entertaining collection of stories . . . enthusiastically recommended.

The stories look like being from the pen of John H Watson himself.  Mr Stockwell proves to be his worthy successor knowing the original Holmes Canon as well as the life and institutions of Victorian England.  I spent a wonderful time  reading this perfect collection of amazing cases.

Ales Kolodrubec: President of the Czech Society of Sherlock Holmes

A sparkling collection well worthy to be considered in the lineage of the tales penned by Dr Watson.  The stories have very ingenious and carefully crafted plots and hold the reader's attention until the final page.  Their action is absolutely in the mould so familiar to devoted Holmesians.  I can only echo the master's words "Let me recommend this book . . . remarkable . . . "

THERE ARE SEVENTEEN STORIES IN THE BOOK

The Singular Adventure of the Eccentric Gentleman

"If you are thinking that this chap is affected by the phases of the moon, Holmes, I should warn you that so-called lunatic behaviour has been utterly discredited by modern medecine."

The Singular Adventure of the Flat-Top Desk

"You mean he actually wanted  to be shot in the back?  I can't grasp this at all, Holmes," I said flabbergasted.

The Singular Adventure of the Disappearing Bubbles

"Well, to be honest, Dr Watson, they were rather rough looking men - not at all the sort of men one expects to see on the beach watching a Punch & Judy show."

The Singular Adventure of the Blue Silk Underwear

"This is a cambric shirt and it would appear that the legs have been cut off Miss Sally's underwear and crudely sewn around the sleeves of the shirt."

The Singular Adventure of the Sulky Pony

"Well, Watson, this is a pretty case.  It is not often that we have several witnesses to a crime and there still seems to be no solution."

The Singular Adventure of the Holy Rood

"I fear that a possession belonging to whole Christian world has been stolen.  A priceless relic of our Lord!"  Bob, visibly shaken, sat down.

The Singular Adventure of the Oppressed Tragedian

"As for you, madam, I can say in all my experience, I have never met such an evil woman. If we cannot expect loyalty, decency and honesty from our womenfolk, civilisation will descend into barbarity. Good day."

The Singular Adventure of the Dead Tree

"Because, Mr Holmes, six months ago my father died and, shortly afterwards, so did one of the trees."

The Singular Adventure of the Rambling Detective

The sheet was stained with much blood and, when I lifted the corner to look, it was very evident why. A garden fork was obviously responsible as the wounds were in lines of four where the tines had penetrated the frail old lady's body.

The Singular Adventure of the Abandoned Bicycle

It could be seen from the marks in the snow that a man had pushed the bicycle from the shed to the driveway. There the bicycle remained abandoned but the footsteps had completely disappeared."

The Singular Adventure of the Bride of the Moon

Maskelyne the magician stopped dramatically and stared at Holmes. "That is why I have come to you. Almost a week ago, Princess Zelda vanished from the stage of my theatre and has never been heard of since."

The Singular Adventure of the Haunted House

"Oh, how awful," simpered Holmes. "I could not live in a house like this. I hope you have put Jonquil and I near each other. I may become frightened in the night."

The Singular Adventure of the Absent Professor

"of course I was not mistaken, Watson. I do not make mistakes. The man they are to bury is not the missing professor."

The Singular Adventure of the Intermittent Jigsaw Puzzle

Then I saw it. On the floor in front of the very chair where I was sitting. A twist of newspaper containing a piece of jigsaw. The thing had arrived whilst I was asleep!

The Singular Adventure of the Sporting Gent

The bouncy man who had entered our rooms a bare half-hour ago crumpled before my eyes and to my astonishment started to quietly weep.  "I don't know what to do. I can't repay my friends. I daren't go near my club. I'm ruined!"

The Singular Adventure of the Red Nosed Artist

Lestrade glanced around. "This must not get out, you understand. Not a word." He gently raised the artist's smock and to our surprise the body underneath was completely naked and the masculine organ was painted with red paint.

The Singular Adventure of the Spurious Ambassador

"Are you seriously proposing that I counterfeit a foreign nobleman? Are you mad? What language does he speak? German? Russian? Slovene?"
